Hermit Crab

Hermit Crab is an enemy in Risk of Rain 2. They first start appearing in the fourth stage, Abyssal Depths.

Behavior

Compared to most enemies, Hermit Crab has an unique attack pattern. They root themselves into the ground so that only their funnel-like top is showing, and fire rubble at the player. This attack has great range and an element of surprise, as the shot arcs high and falls usually from outside the players field of vision.

An elite crabs shot retains the highlight of the elite, making it easy to see where these more dangerous variants are.

If approached or damaged when close, the Crab will uproot and try to flee. They will skittle directly away from the closest player, an in doing so may run into walls or even off of cliffs. Doing the latter 20 times completes The Demons And The Crabs Challenge.
