The Clay Dunestrider is a boss in Risk of Rain 2.

Behavior

The Clay Dunestrider is one of the boss monsters. It typically spawns on  "Abandoned Aqueduct" ,"Rallypoint Delta" and "Scorched Acres" .

The Clay Dunestrider possesses a number of attacks, including a ranged bomb and a health-recovering mode.

The ranged attack consists of the Clay Dunestrider throwing a series of pots covered in ink-like substance which explode, at the player. Since the pots will explode, players may need to be aware of its splash damage.

After a few waves of ranged attacks, or the Clay Dunestrider has taken enough damage, it will proceed to stand up and will shoot out 3 round objects every 1 second from its bottom, after it has completely stood up. These round objects are covered in ink-like substance which explode on contact with the player or friendly unit. These attacks can be avoided easier by jumping over them, but since players' surroundings may also have other enemies, it maybe quite hard to avoid.

When the Clay Dunestrider is lower than 25% health, it will flip around and begin snaring nearby enemies and players, pulling them towards its body. At this time, the Clay Dunestrider has a resistant buff against damage, and it recovers health based on how many targets it has snared. Also, if a target that is being snared moves into its "pot" area, the target will take more damage and the Clay Dunestrider can recover more health from it. It may be prudent to manage the number of surrounding enemies to reduce the amount of health the Clay Dunestrider can recover.

Note that the Clay Dunestrider will not use this ability when it is standing completely straight up, so it is possible to kill it before it uses its health recover ability. Player can also wait for it to stand up then finish it.

If you are snared you will be pulled towards the Clay Dunestrider, but it is possible to move away from it, and after getting far enough away, the snare will be severed and you can move freely. A fast character or one that can teleport will find getting away easier.

Like other bosses, the Clay Dunestrider can be found spawning as an elite of the teleporter event later in game , and it can also be seen spawning naturally.
